Ever fascinated by musical form and organic “puzzles” of motivic expression, Richard Wernick has created a fascinating 11-minute solo work bearing subheadings of Set No. 1 through Set No. 8, in which the successive themes of each variation set are derived from the preceding music, creating a kind of multilevel maze. As captivating to perform as to hear, SETS OF VARIATIONS is designed for advanced performers.
