Verismo Opera Libretti Volume 1 (Castel)

Verismo Opera Libretti
Volume I
By Nico Castel
Edited by Scott Jackson Wiley

This addition to Castel's monumental opera libretti series contains: Andrea Chénier and Fedora (Giordano); Adriana Lecouvreur (Cilea); La Bohéme and Pagliacci (Leoncavallo); Mefistofele (Boito); Cavalleria Rusticana and L'Amico Fritz (Mascagni); and La Gioconda (Ponchielli). As with all Castel's opera libretti, this volume contains the IPA transcriptions; Word-for-Word English translations; a guide to the IPA; Notes on the Italian transcriptions; and a Foreword by Plácido Domingo.

From the Foreword to this volume, the great international tenor, conductor and opera administrator, Plácido Domingo, states: "My good friend and colleague of many years, Nico Castel, has undertaken the Herculean task of writing translations and phonetic transcriptions of practically every opera in the current repertoire. It is an undertaking that has engaged the passion so typical of him. These books will become the standard by which a new generation of singers can better understand and interpret their opera roles in a way that was never practicably possible heretofore. Bravo, Nico, for this invaluable legacy!"

Foreword by Plácido Domingo.
