The Oxford History of Western Music Third Edition

Richard Taruskin and Author Christopher H. Gibbs

The Oxford History of Western Music, Third Edition, guides students on an immersive journey through the evolution of Western music from ancient and medieval times to the present day. By emphasizing the connections between works within each cultural era and across time and place, the text goes beyond a simple retelling of musical history to develop students' listening skills for each period's key works.

Accompanied by anthologies and streaming audio featuring recordings of previously undocumented ancient pieces and links to existing music, The Oxford History of Western Music is a comprehensive text ideal for building students' understanding and appreciation of the classical canon.
