Contains thirty Chansons, Noëls; Madrigaux, Brunettes, Airs á Boire et á Danser, Tambourines et Rondeaux from the 14th to the 18th Centuries. These songs were gleaned from the earlier volumes, Échos du temps passé by Jean Baptiste Weckerlin and from Chants de la vieille France by Julien Tiersot. In addition to the music, Robert Gartside provides translations to their commentary as well as his own commentary, word-for-word English translations, and IPA transcriptions of the French texts. This volume accidentally has two titles: Songs from Early France (cover) and Songs from Old France (title page).
