Ravel: Ma Mere L'oye (Mother Goose Suite) for One Piano, Four Hands

Ravel/ed. by Weekley & Arganbright: Maurice Ravel based the five pieces in this remarkable suite on French "Mother Goose" nursery tales. Laideronnette, Impératrice Des Pagodes, is entirely set in the black-note pentatonic scale with Chinese bell and gong effects. Le Jardin Féerique, is a musical portrait of an enchanted garden with glittering, arpeggiated chords, trumpet flourishes, ringing bells, and brilliant pianistic color. Sophisticated and elegant writing!
