Score and Parts
Paganini ("the phenomenal violin virtuoso of all time," says Sebastiani) was master of a number of instruments, not least the guitar. He often used the guitar in his vast number of chamber works, perhaps because of his lack of knowledge of piano, typically serving as accompaniment with arpeggi and chords. The present Sonata con variazioni, was written for the "only authentic pupil of Paganini," Camillo Sivori, and was first performed in 1824. Copies of the manuscript survive, as it was intended to be performed for the 100th anniversary of Sivori's birth, but World War I intervened and the work was shelved once more. It is only now that this unpublished, unknown Paganini quartet has come to light, and it is here presented in a handsome Guitaromanie Edition by Tuscany.
