Operatic Highlights from "Abduction from the Seraglio", "Marriage of Figaro", "Magic Flute" & "Don Giovanni" for two oboes. ln the early years of the 19th century there was a vogue for arrangements of familiar music for two melody instruments. Numerous versions exist of works by Mozart for two flutes, two violins or two clarinets. Arrangements for two oboes or two bassoons are, however, extremely rare. The Köchel Catalogue mentions only an arrangement of the violin sonata K 374 d (376) for two oboes, dating from 1821, which has been published in a revised edition in the present series (UE 17521). The editions of excerpts from Mozart's operas for two flutes which have appeared in the Vienna Flute Edition, have been purchased also by oboists, although only a few numbers from the four volumes are really suitable for performance on this instrument. The present collection contains a selection of those pieces best suited for the oboe, primarily pieces in the same key as the original excerpt. I am confident that oboists will now derive as much enjoyment from these duets as flautists and violinists have done in the past.
