The most popular and enduring of Mendelssohn's "Trois Fantasias ou Caprices, Op. 16," this Scherzo is reminiscent of the overture for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" written two years previous to this one. Willard Palmer includes historic and performance notes and a reproduction of one of Mendelssohn's autographs of the piece.
