Dedicated to Russian pianist Oxana Yablonskaya, whose playing had so impressed Liebermann (an excellent pianist in his own right), the Four Etudes are the result of shining Brahms' light through the prism that is Lowell Liebermann. Excellent pianistic writing produces performance pieces of simply beautiful music.
