Handel Opera Libretti Volume 2 (Castel)

Handel Opera Libretti
Volume II
By Nico Castel
Edited by Marcie Stapp

This volume II of the Handel Opera libretti is the 21st in the hard-back series by Professor Castel. In his Foreword to this volume, the dynamic conductor of the Metropolitan Opera and the other major opera houses in the world, James Conlon, states: "If today's younger generation of singers and coaches are increasingly better prepared to confront the linguistic challenges of an operatic career than in the past, it is in no small part due to the great influence of Nico Castel.
His multi-volume guide through the intricacies of operatic diction is no longer a luxury but a necessity for any serious professional involved in opera. Its utility is not limited to students, but above all, to singers, conductors, coaches and stage directors who are already in the midst of their careers....
I myself am the proud owner of over a dozen of these volumes. I read and reread them. Whether to prepare an opera, review another, or for simple pleasure, the wealth of information is never exhausted. I consider studying them a must for all of us who love and participate in this great art form, and a potential source of pleasure and enhanced appreciation for opera lovers of all ages."
