Fick-Cambria: Aperture

For Solo Cello

APERTURE is an exhilarating tour de force for solo cello, depicting the mechanism by which light passes through a photographic lens. The work’s colorful extended techniques and textures combine with vibrantly powerful syncopations to create an experience that is both enjoyable and rewarding for the advanced cellist. Mixed meters in rapid succession portray mechanical glitches, while the expansive timbral possibilities of the instrument are explored. An inspiring performance of APERTURE is available through the composer’s YouTube channel.
