Translated from German:
Most piano students know the Melodic Exercises Op. 149 by Anton Diabelli and have already played them with pleasure. These "New Melodic Exercises" for piano four hands arose from the desire to have other piano pieces with a similar structure available. The "New Melodic Exercises" can also be easily incorporated into piano lessons, either as primavista material or as easy literature for a first four-hand playing. The primo part is much easier to play than the secondo part, which can also be played by the piano teacher, for example. As with the Diabelli piano pieces, the range of the primo part is almost always limited to the fifth space; there are no difficult jumps and both hands are often played in parallel. The nine pieces can be combined as desired due to their very different characters and thus offer the opportunity to put together a sequence of personal favorite pieces for a small audition program.
