Composed in 1918, ETUDES, Op. 18 for solo Piano includes three studies by Béla Bartók (1881-1945) influence by Chopin, Debussy and Schoenberg. The first etude has a motor punctuated with the accents of Hungarian folk music and language. The second etude is a bold expansive melody with arpeggiated waves. Evident of Schoenberg influence, the third etude includes irregular rhythms and meter changes. Later in Bartók's life he admitted to a friend that he could not play these ETUDES as they proved to be a technical feat. Reprint edition.
