Bach Six Suites for Solo Viola (originally for Cello)

By J.S. Bach, transcr. Watson Forbes

Viola, Solo (Unaccompanied)

This edition of Bach's Six Suite was transcribed for viola by Watson Forbes. He worked with the Bach-Gesellschaft edition and a facsimile of the manuscript copied by Anna Magdalena. The viola part, in suites one through five, is written one octave higher than in the original. For practical purposes, Suite No. 6 has been transposed from the key of D major to G major.
