Johann Christian Bach—known as the “Milan” or “London” Bach to distinguish him from his brothers—played a decisive role in shaping the emerging Classical style and is regarded as a true predecessor and influential model for Mozart.
His Trio in G major for two flutes and basso continuo, much like Joseph Haydn’s “London Trios,” can also be performed with two flutes and cello, offering various ensemble combinations the opportunity to become “musically acquainted” with the youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Substantive and beautifully sounding music from the early Classical period—a rewarding, moderately difficult piece for any flutist who enjoys chamber music.
