Long-celebrated as a fount of new repertoire for strings, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich (who played violin in the American Symphony under Stokowski and studied with Galamian) has created a wealth of chamber works that endure in the hearts and on the music stands of string players throughout the world. Zwilich's Fantasy for Solo Viola is the composer's adaptation of her Fantasy for Solo Violin, commissioned as a compulsory work for the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
