Transposition at sight ranks as one of the most essential skills to be mastered by an orchestral trumpet player. Improving on 'the Bible of trumpet playing', each of Sachse's formidable etudes is presented in its original form side by side with Vacchiano's altered version, which indicates the phrase-by-phrase transposition needed (for Bb trumpet) to make the paired etudes sound the same. The Sachse etudes include the originally instructed keys into which the whole etude can be transposed (please note: written out transpositions for this manner are not provided).
William Vacchiano was a legend in the brass world for over 70 years - for 31 of those he sat in the principal chair of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Sadly, he passed awayaged 93, in September 2005. He was a natural teacher and mentor - inspiring many of his students to achieve successful performing careers of their own around the globe. OTHER TITLES by Vacchiano published by Edition Peters: The Art of Double Tonguing, The Art of Triple Tonguing, Miniature Variations on The Carnival of Venice (for Trumpet in Bb & Eb).
