Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847) wrote the incidental music for “A Midsummer Night's Dream” almost twenty years after his famous overture of the same name, to which a letter from the composer says: “Today or tomorrow I want to start dreaming the Midsummer Night's Dream.” That Scherzo from incidental music is considered a masterpiece, which perfectly reproduces the fairy specter of comedy with playful brilliance. This arrangement involves each of the four voices equally in the musical process and offers flautists the opportunity to perform this delightful piece from the musical romanticism with the design options of their instrument.
