Fançois Lilienfeld answered the great demand for choral settings for Jewish folk music. His first volume of the new series "Synagogue and Shtetl" contains Yiddish and Hasidic songs. Although Yiddish folk songs are mostly solo songs, there are also love songs that are sung as a dialogue. The melody underlying the Hasidic Nigunim is a typical form of expression of the Jewish mystical movement.
The target group of the arrangements are school choirs. Accordingly, they are preferably set for equal voices (S/MS/A), but can also be performed in the S/A/B instrumentation.
