'El negrito', the black (haired) one, refers to Antonio Lauro's younger son, Luis. 'La gatica', the (female) cat, may have been a domestic pet - we don't know. The pairing of these pieces for guitar is as Antonio Lauro intends it. The fingering given in the composer's manuscript are incomplete; they have been retained an amplifed.
