Description

Johannes’s Brahms Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, op. 8, known as his first chamber work, was completed and published in 1854, when the composer was only twenty years old. This fact that the piece was openly criticized by Clara Schumann, his close friend and fellow musician whom he adored, made Brahms to never fully give credit to himself for this work. In 1889, while he as revis-ing most of his early works, Brahms decided to revise this piece and produced a revised version of the work. This “New Edition”, as he called it, had significant changes to the original version and was premiered on 10 January 1890 in Budapest and published in February 1891.
This current edition and transcription follows closely the new revised edition written by Brahms.
Given the nature of the double bass timbre and sound projection, some of the dynamics have been adjusted to suit the comfort of the performer for practical reasons to complement the rich and thick piano line characteristic for this piece.
