Despite the classically sober title, Suite in C major, the headings of the three movements suggest that scenes from country life served as the source of the composer’s inspiration. The work is demanding,
both in technical terms and in terms of musical interpretation, and calls for tonal and harmonic sensitivity and rhythmic stability on the part of the performers.
"Für die dreisätzige Suite von 1926, deren Manuskript im Familienarchiv aufgefunden wurde, ließ sich die Komponistin von ihrem Leben auf dem Land inspirieren: I Jour de fête überrascht mit prickelnden, synkopierten Auftaktmotiven, in denen sich die beiden Instrumente folgen. Ein gesangliches Intermezzo wird beendet von einem Galopp. II Sous la ramée ist eine ausgedehnte Träumerei, souverän zwischen den Tonarten schwebend. III Cortège champêtre kehrt zum C-Dur von I zurück mit vielen fantasievollen Modulationen, an einen leichtfüßigen Umzug von Majoretten erinnernd. Musikalisch anspruchsvoll schenkt diese Suite den Interpretinnen und Interpreten viel Freude." (Walter Amadeus Amman)
