One of the most lively documents from the everyday musical life of the Bach family as a true-to-original facsimile edition.
The music books that Johann Sebastian Bach created for members of his family are so valuable to us because art and life intertwine noticeably here. Bach created two music books for his second wife Anna Magdalena. The first, from 1722, is only preserved in fragments, the second was written in 1725. At the beginning, the music booklet contains two large partitas in Bach's own hand, which were probably intended as a dedicatory entry for his wife. The selection of the remaining pieces probably comes from Anna Magdalena herself, whose writing predominates in the music book. But childish clumsiness can also be seen, for example in the aria from the “Tobacco Pipe”, which shows the handwriting of Anna Magdalena's eldest son, Gottfried Heinrich Bach. “The piano booklet, with its colorful juxtaposition of seriousness and cheerfulness, of coincidence and deeper meaning, vividly introduces us to the everyday world of the Thomaskantor” (Georg von Dadelsen). The true-to-color reproduction makes the music booklet available as a facsimile to all lovers of Bach's music.
