Written in formal classical style, this lovely sonata gives way to soaring, romantic impulses and stark key changes, supported by a driving piano accompaniment. The piano accompaniment is a reprint of the impressively accurate 1878 edition, and the viola part is newly engraved and transposed from the cello part, with discrepancies reconciled by the editor.
